September is the time to visit Jerez de la Frontera, for the town comes alive to celebrate the end of summer and the harvest. Celebrations assume many forms, including events relating to wine to coincide with the grape harvest, flamenco music (an essential for an Andalucían festival), horses and local gastronomy.
Festivities begin with a grape treading demonstration, and for the following two weeks there are concerts, demonstrations and events aplenty, keeping the crowds of all ages entertained.
A highlight is the Royal School of Equestrian Art's gala which plays host to a series of demos and events that are sure to impress. For foodies, and especially tapas fans, the Tapajerez competition, entered by loads of the bars and restaurants in the city, promotes the fine tapas, much of which is a taste sensation.
